About Darryl McClary
“The word of the Lord came to me, saying, before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:4-5
Pastor Darryl J. McClary is the pastor of the New Light Baptist Church of Chesapeake, Virginia. This is an honor that he holds very dear to his heart. Pastor Darryl, as he is affectionately referred to by members of the congregation, is a native of Goldsboro, North Carolina. While young, his family relocated to Norfolk, Virginia where he graduated from Matthew Fontaine Maury High School.
Pastor McClary loves his family. He is married to his high school sweetheart, the lovely Mrs. Jessica T. McClary. They are the proud parents of one daughter, Madison Abrielle McClary and equally proud god-parents of Deontre R. Williams, Zion Kendall Purvis-Allen and Brooke-Lynn Kennedy Purvis-Allen. The family currently resides in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Pastor McClary was licensed as a minister in July of 1996 and ordained in August of 2004 at New Light Baptist Church, then under the exceptional leadership of Dr. Charles R. Green.
Pastor McClary knows what it is to be a servant leader within the body of Christ. Prior to becoming pastor he served as Minister of Music for the New Light family for 16 years. He has served in many capacities; as an Associate Minister, Adult Sunday School teacher, and chairperson of the Men’s Fellowship, just to name a few.
Pastor McClary was enrolled in Berea Bible College and Seminary where he completed several courses of study. He enjoys the study of God’s word and desires to be equipped to stand before the people of God. With such a desire, Pastor Darryl is currently a full-time student at Regent University.
Pastor McClary is an anointed worshipper, gifted as a musician and vocalist; he, however, boldly shares that his greatest joy is in teaching, preaching, and seeing lives transformed by the power of the word of God. His charismatic personality and practical approach to teaching allow him to deliver a relevant message to hearers of all ages and races.
