About Us

Our History

New Light has stood for nearly a century. It is a congregation of rich history. Organized in 1916 by a group of worshippers who saw the need for a church in the community of Grassfield; New Light was birthed. Some of the primary founders were Brothers Tob McClavin, Samuel Johnson, and Andred Copeland. These brothers also desired a permanent place of worship; Brother Samuel Johnson, a neighborhood blacksmith, allowed the services to convene at his home. The membership of the church began to grow and Reverend W. G. Alexander of the Mount Lebanon Baptist Church was called to serve as its first pastor.

Over the years several pastors would lead the way for New Light to become instrumental and dedicated to the spiritual growth of its members through powerful worship and anointed teaching, as well as, the physical growth of the church through diligent and faithful stewardship. New Light has grown from the “small white church on the side of the road” to constructing a 20,000 sq. ft. edifice that will boast a gymnasium, classrooms, computer lab, and sanctuary, and this is only the beginning!

New Light, under the anointed leadership of Pastor Darryl J. McClary, has been blessed to have established 7 functioning departments with ministries designed to minister to the growing needs of the congregation and community. The ministry has a full time staff and numerous volunteers who assist Pastor McClary in “Empowering Believers & Equipping Leaders, to Evangelize the World!”
